Egyptian army thwarted Saturday a terrorist attempt to attack a number of security checkpoints in Arish city, North Sinai, security sources told Youm 7. The sources added that the army succeeded in defusing an improvised explosive device (IED) which was planted near a military base in Sheikh Zuweid. On Friday, the army thwarted a terrorist attempt to blow up an IED targeting military bases in Karam Al Kawadis village, south of Sheikh Zuweid. Since September 2013, the Egyptian army has been carrying out an ongoing military campaign against Wilayat Sinai, formerly known as Ansar Bayt Al Maqdis, after it had claimed responsibility for several attacks targeting Egyptian military and police personnel.
