FM Sameh Shoukry told reporters in Algeria Sunday that Egypt backed the Libyan parties' efforts to reach political consensus, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported. Shoukry said Egypt was following up and participating in the Libyan dialogue rounds hosted by Algeria and Morocco and led by Head of the U.N. Support Mission in Libya, Bernardino León to end the security crisis. He explained that Egypt backed León's efforts to end the Libyan crisis while holding discussions with the Libyan parties to reach a settlement by forming a national unity government. The foreign minister highlighted that only the Libyan parties could bring an end to the crisis that divided the country. He expressed his optimism regarding the success of León's efforts to reach a political agreement to express the will of the Libyan people. He also pointed to the importance of the Libyan tribes' conference which will be held in Egypt next Monday, describing the tribes as being the core of the Libyan people, which are well aware that Egypt only had Libya's best interests at heart. Shoukry stressed on the need to give the tribes a chance to solve the Libyan crisis and set their country's future ambitions and aspirations, adding that all Libyan tribes have been invited to attend the conference. At least 434 tribal elders will participate in the Cairo conference, a tribal source, who asked to remain anonymous, told Masrawy news. Soukry is set to meet a number of Moroccan and Algerian officials at the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
