Head of Egypt's Republican People Party, Hazem Omar said German chancellor Angela Merkel's insistence to meet President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi next June shows Egypt's importance in the international political arena, Al Bawaba News reported Saturday. "Merkel's commitment to Al-Sisi's visit reflects Egypt's status in the region", Mr. Omar said, indicating Al-Sisi's previous European tours gained him popularity in fighting terrorism. Mr. Omar asserted that the German parliament speaker Norbert Lamart, who declared his refusal to meet Al-Sisi, does not represent the German public opinion, adding Germany is keen to establish common relations with Egypt and to support its efforts in fighting terrorism.
