The Islamic State (IS) militant group has seized control of the majority of Syrian territories since the declaration of its alleged "caliphate" in June 2014, said Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Al Bawaba News reported Thursday. The UK-based observatory added that IS became in control of 95000 Km of Syria and exists in nine provinces, including the ancient city of Palmyra which has been fallen recently in the hands of the terrorist organization. Meanwhile, IS also takes control over the vast majority of the gas, oilfields and gold mines in Syria, except for the regime-held Al Shaer oil filed in the countryside of Homs and the Kurdish- held oilfields of Remeilan in the countryside of Al Hasakah are still out of its control. Palmyra was the last city to fall for IS, of which many calls had arose to save its precious ancient monuments from demolition by IS militias.
