The Austrian Minister of Interior Johanna Mikl Leitner warned Sunday of Europe's failure to deal with the refugees' issue, Al Bawaba News reported. "Europe may fail in the refugee issue", she said, adding that it was "a matter of life or death". Leitner defended the private system's suggestion of fixed quotas for refugees in the EU member states, calling for a quick implementation of this solution. Leitner's visit Saturday to a refugee camp in the Austrian city of Linz coincided with the arrival of 96 refugees. Leitner met with some, who expressed their hope of suitable shelters, instead of a camp dedicated to the police sports activities. Syrian refugees asked her to allow them to work and learn the language to become useful citizens. Official information states that the camps are used by the Ministry of Interior to cope with the increasing number of refugees. Reports also showed that the majority of camp residents came from Syria, Iraq and North African countries.
