An explosion targeted an apartment building related to the Egyptian security forces in North Sinai's Al Arish early Wednesday. The attack led to material damages but no casualties were reported, eyewitnesses said. They added that unidentified assailants, driving a private vehicle, planted highly explosive bombs in a house in the Karm Abo Nagela district, and remotely detonated them causing a huge explosion. According to Youm7, security forces and Apache helicopters are currently searching the area for militants suspected to have led the attack. Egypt's security forces have been fighting a militant insurgency in Sinai. However, the terrorist attacks have escalated since the ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013, extending to the capital and other cities. Militant attacks have intensified in the restive Sinai Peninsula over the past eighteen months, killing hundreds of security and military personnel.
