13 defendants were acquitted by Egyptian court on Wednesday, while others were sentenced to years in prison in accusations related to violence in Azhar University, Bawaba News reported. Cairo Criminal Court acquitted 13 defendants accused of involving in Al Azhar University riots in December 2013, including a photo journalist, while it sentenced 63 others to 7 years in prison. The defendants faced charges of raising riots inside the university campus, damaging public and private properties, and committing violent acts during the protests that took place in Al Azhar University. Egyptian universities witnessed violent clashes between the security and students loyal to Muslim Brotherhood, following the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.
