Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry left New York early Tuesday wrapping up his successful visit aimed to promote Egypt's bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council, FM spokesperson Badr Abdel Atty said in a statement. During his several days' visit, Shoukry participated in the 2015 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference. He held separate talks with his American, Jordanian, Swedish and Dutch counterparts on the sideline of the conference. Abdel Atty added that Egypy gained notable support during these meetings for its bid for the membership of the UN Security Council. On the other hand, Shoukry held a triparite meeting with his American and Jordanian counterparts John Kerry and Nasser Judeh to discuss the Palestinian issue in the light of the Arab Peace Initiative and other international treaties. The meeting also tackled the latest developments in the Yemeni situation and reviewed the suggestions to implement the Security Council's recent resolution that imposed arms embargo on the Houthi rebels in Yemen.
