UN Asia-Pacific Group expressed its support for Egypt's bid to gain non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council for the coming two years, according Spokesperson of Egypt's Foreign Ministry Badr Abdel-Atty. He added, in press statements, that the representatives praised Egypt's vital role to combat terrorism and to contain regional crises threatening the international peace and security. Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry holds a tour currently in New York to rally the international support for Egypt's nomination for the non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council. Abdel Atty said that Mr. Shoukry met with the group's representatives to discuss the Egyptian priorities if it took the position. He added that the minister was keen to contact with the different geographical groups to pave the way for dealing with the different issues inclusively. The Egyptian diplomat quoted Shoukry as saying, "We have excellent relations with the Asian countries so we are confident of your support for our bid."
