Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary General Abdel Latif Zayani strongly denounced the latest terrorist attacks in Egypt's Sinai which resulted in at least 15 casualties among security personnel, Al Bawaba News reported Tuesday. "These terrorist attacks are heinous, they go against all religious, humanitarian and moral values, Zayani said in a statement published on Tuesday. "We express our deep condolences to the Egyptian leadership and the victims' families, as well as our solidarity with Egypt in its war against terrorism in Sinai," the statement read. Separate terrorist attacks April 13 in the restive Sinai Peninsula, killed an Egyptian soldier and injured another one, a day after Islamic State (IS)-linked militants claimed responsibility for the killing of 14 soldiers in two bombings. Since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi, July 2013, Egypt has repeatedly witnessed, particularly in Sinai, a string of deadly blasts claiming hundreds of lives. Egypt has taken a series of precautionary measures in the volatile peninsula including the construction of a buffer zone on the borders with the Islamist-run Gaza Strip where militants and weapons, security sources argue, are smuggled into Egyptian territories.
