Members of Al Azhar and Sufi leaders called for the removal of the Egyptian Endowment Minister, Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa, from his position due to his paying tribute to a Shiite leader in Kuwait, Al Bawaba News reported. Sources said that Gomaa visited Al Azhar's Grand Imam Ahmed Al Tayeb in Luxor to apologize for honoring Shiite scholar Mohamed Baqer Al Muhri in Kuwait. The Al Sahab and Al Aal (Companions and Family of Prophet Mohamed) Coalition demanded the dismissal of Gomaa from his position, claiming that the incident was akin to "treason", as Egypt supports the Arab alliance airstrikes on the Shiite Houthi militias in Yemen. "It's nonsense to honor a Shiite scholar, who insults the Prophet and says that Al Hussein is better.", Secretary General of the coalition, Nasser Radwan said, asking the minister to quit. From his side, Gomaa said the Kuwaiti institute for Tolerance and Peace had asked him to honor religious figures who advocate tolerance among religions, affirming that the homage was a Kuwaiti issue unrelated to the Egyptian Endowment Ministry. Gomaa renewed his support to the Arab alliance Decisive Storm campaign in Yemen, which aims at restoring the legitimate rule of President Abd Rabbo Hadi Mansour.
