Egypt's Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab said Monday that his government intends to hold the first phase of parliamentary elections before June, asserting that there is a consensus of opinion among political parties on this issue. Mahlab added, in a phone call to Al Nahar TV channel, that the government is very serious about holding the parliamentary elections as soon as possible. Mahlab stated that he listened to the different demands of political parties, pointing out that the electoral districts and rolls are still in dispute. Controversy over the date of parliamentary elections has spread among political parties, as some parties supported the potential date announced by Mahlab, while others have opposed it. Major political and religious forces have agreed on the post June 30 Revolution roadmap which was consisted of three steps: drafting a new constitution, electing a president in transparent and cooperative elections, and preparing for parliamentary elections open to all political forces with the exception of those who committed bloody violence.
