Regional militaries near Iraq cannot defeat Islamic State (IS) if it kept recruiting ideologically brainwashed foreign fighters, Iraqi Prime Minister, Haidar Al Abadi told German magazine Der Spiegel. Abadi said: "57% of IS militants are from Iraq, but they do not form any obstacles, as the very sight of Iraqi forces frightens them and push them to flee the battle ground," Reuters reported Saturday. He added: "it is the 43 percent who are foreign fighters who have been indoctrinated ideologically who have their backs up against the wall. If IS continues to recruit so many from other countries, then no army in our region can stand up to it." Furthermore, he urged authorities to take serious security measures to protect young people from IS' extreme version of Islam and ideology. Abadi stressed that Germany should play a vital role in the fight against IS, through supporting Iraqi forces with weapons that they are in dire need of, especially anti-explosive devices. The Iraqi prime minister reminded the German government that hundreds of its nationals are fighting in IS' ranks. German intelligence agency announced that almost 600 German citizens have joined IS' ranks in Syria and Iraq.
