The city of Fayoum, 100 km southwest of Cairo, witnessed Thursday a cruel procedure against a 10-year old schoolgirl, when her teacher shaved her head to teach her a lesson. The teacher claimed that the little girl had to be punished for not wearing a head scarf, like adult Muslim women do and used a blade to shave her hair. The little girl's mother Tayseer Oweis, told the media that the teacher had assaulted her daughter during the school day, leaving her completely distraught and depressed. "My daughter didn't tell me about the incident, her schoolmates did," Oweis told the Egyptian TV program 'Manchette'. "My daughter will not wear a veil, she's just a kid", the mother added. " That teacher doesn't know anything about Islam. Islam doesn't say to scare a kid to death and force her to do something she doesn't want to do", she said. The incident outraged the Egyptian public which is calling for the teacher to be prosecuted for using Islam as a tool to terrify a little girl. The Fayoum Education Department suspended Sunday Arabic and Religious education teacher as well as the school's director. Prosecution put the teacher in custody pending investigations. This is not the first time an Egyptian teacher has assaulted a female student for not wearing the Hijab, in total violation of the law.
