The Iraqi Defense Ministry announced late Monday that the Iraqi military had killed 70 Islamic State (IS) militants and injured 14 in the cities of Tikrit and Ramadi, the German Press Agency (DPA) reported. Troops of the Saladin military operations command center thwarted a desperate attack by IS militants in the southern part of Tikrit University, killing seven and bombing a vehicle rigged with explosives, the ministry said in a statement. The statement added that the army had bombed Al Teen and Al Qadisiyah districts in Tikrit, killing two IS militants. Forces of Al Anbar military operations command center also killed at least 30 IS militants in Ramadi. Meanwhile, Iraqi forces backed by the international coalition fighter jets, killed 20 IS militants and injured six in the same province. The army bombed eight IS militants and injured three others in Albu Diab area in Ramadi, while other Iraqi forces killed three IS militants and injured five.
