Iraqi forces reclaimed areas in eastern Ramadi from Islamic State (IS) in Al Anbar province, a source at Al Anbar military operations command center told the German Press Agency (DPA) late Monday. The source, who asked to remain anonymous, said that the Iraqi army backed by tribal fighters, carried out a major military operation to liberate the road linking the Japanese bridge to Albu Shehab, Albu Khanfar and Al Busodh in eastern Ramadi, from IS. IS used the road to supply its fighters with weapons to continue their progress in areas of eastern Ramadi, the source explained. Furthermore, the source added that the successful military operation left dozens of IS fighters dead, prompting other fighters to flee the battle ground.
