Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Moscow Thursday to discuss ways of developing and boosting bilateral relations in every field. The ministers tackled the current situation in Libya and the importance of initiating political dialogue and rejecting violence and terrorism. The spokesperson for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said the ministers held lengthy consultations on recent developments in the Libyan crisis and the prospects of a political solution. They also exchanged their points of view on how to deal with the terrorism phenomenon. Lavrov expressed his country's support for the Arab-Egyptian moves made at the UN Security Council, (UNSC), regarding the Libyan situation. Lavrov gave clear instructions to the permanent Russian envoy at the UNSC to coordinate with the Arab states' delegations and the other member states' envoys to the Council, to back the passing of a resolution submitted by Jordan to lift the international ban on military aid to the Libyan government in Tobruk. The resolution coincides with Egypt's efforts to press the Council into taking action after the IS group posted a video of the beheading of 21 Egyptian Christians on 15 February.
