The U.S. Defense department has expedited $17.9 million in military equipment and supplies to the Iraqi government, Pentagon spokesman Army Col. Steve Warren told reporters on Tuesday. "This was a $17.9 million (Foreign Military Sales Program) case," Warren said. "It was an expedited delivery, which took 22 days from the time of signature until delivery. This is less than a quarter of the time it normally takes to execute these types of deliveries", he added. Warren said that 232 Hellfire missiles were delivered on February 15, adding to the 1,572 Hellfires delivered in 2014. 250 mine-resistant, ambush-protected vehicles were delivered to the Iraqi government January 4. He added that thousands of Kevlar helmets and body armor were also delivered January 22, according to a statement published on the Defense Department's official website. The deal is in accordance with US'obligation to help the Iraqi army in its fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), which seized one of Iraq's largest cities, Mosul.
