Dissident jihadist Nabil Naem claimed that 40 Egyptian militants, who were formerly part of AQ-affiliated Al Nusra Front, joined the so-called Islamic state in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Naem, who was leader of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad from 1988 to 1992, told Al Bawaba News that the Egyptian militants who joined ISIS were initially fighters of Al Nusra Front, Al Qaeda's branch in Syria. They joined ISIS after an allegiance war broke out between IS and Al Qaeda. He added that the militants were tracked down by Egyptian authorities and would be immediately arrested upon return on Egyptian land. He pointed out that the majority of IS militants were sent to troubled countries in the Arab region during the Muslim Brotherhood's rule in Egypt.
