Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman announced Monday that minister Sameh Shoukry left for New York to hold urgent meetings with UN senior officials to discuss immediate counter-terrorism actions. President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi asked Shoukry to keep the UN informed of the latest developments in light of the murder of 21 Egyptian Copts in Libya by Islamic State (IS) militants and to consult with them about possible means of counter-terrorism. Shoukry urged in a statement the International community to assume its responsibilities regarding combating terrorism and to take strong effective measures to eliminate terrorist groups. Shoukry received condolences from his American, Russian, French, and Jordanian counterparts. Shoukry is scheduled to head for Washington DC to participate in the counter-terrorism summit, which will be held from February 18 to 20.
