Pope Francis expressed deep sadness Monday over the January 29 terrorist attacks in Arish in northern Sinai. Francis gave his condolences to the Egyptian people, saying he prayed for those who lost their lives and wished a quick recovery for the injured. He urged President Abdel Fattah al Sisi, the police, armed forces, and the Egyptian people to move towards implementing policies that will provide future generations safety and security. On January 29, at least 33 soldiers were killed and dozens injured in three terrorist attacks by terrorist organization Wilayat Sinai, formerly known as Ansar Beit al Maqdis, which targeted army bases in Arish in northern Sinai.
