Ecuador announced Saturday its support for Egypt's attempt to win a non-permanent Security Council seat in 2016. Egypt's ambassador to Ecuador, Kamal Medhat said that he received a call from the Under-Secretary for Ecuador's Foreign Affairs, Jose Maria to inform him that his country had formally decided to support Egypt to run for non-permanent membership of the Security Council. Medhat pointed out that Ecuador keens to boost the bilateral relations between the two countries. Egypt has won a Security Council membership for four times in 1946, 1949 – 1950, 1984 – 1985, and 1996 – 1997.
