Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, Vice Admiral Mohab Mamish said Monday a partial collapse occurred in one of sedimentation basins at new Suez Canal in Ismailia, adding that no injuries were reported and that workflow is going as planned. Mamish stated the water rush caused a partial collapse in the middle sector of new Suez Canal in district 6, East Ismailia city, submerging two trucks under water, one was lifted and the other is being rescued. A state of emergency was declared in the site to prevent future accidents. Sedimentation basins are used for drying sand of water leaking form the original canal. August 2014, President Abdel Fatah Al Sisi announced the national new Suez Canal corridor project, one month after his inauguration, which is a new canal parallel to the original one, in order to enable more ships to pass through. He stressed that digging work must be completed in one year and announced that the project will be delivered on August 6, 2015.
