President of the World Jewish Congress (WJC) Ronald Lauder arrived in Cairo Sunday for a brief visit to discuss regional issues with President Abdel Fatah Al Sisi, according to a Presidency statement. Discussions will include peace talks between Palestinians and Israelis, the situation in Syria, Libya, Iraq, Yemen and counter terrorism in the world. According to their official website, WJC is an international organization that represents Jewish communities and organizations in 100 countries around the world. It advocates on their behalf with governments, parliaments, international organizations and other faiths. It was founded in 1936, in Geneva, by 230 delegates representing Jewish communities in 32 countries. Ronald S. Lauder has served as president of the World Jewish Congress since June 2007. He was U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for European and NATO Affairs from 1983 to 1986. In 2008, he was elected as President of the World Jewish Restitution Organization. Egypt embraced the largest Jewish community in the world in the past. After massive departures in the 60s, their number is now less than 100 persons across the nation.
