Cairo Cassation Court has ordered on Thursday a retrial of the three journalists of Qatari owned channel Al-Jazeera. The court's decision followed the hearing of the three's defense, however prosecution acknowledged major problems with the verdict, it decided to keep the trio in custody until the retrial next month. On December 29, 2013, Egyptian security forces stormed the room of Peter Greste, Mohamed Fahmy and Baher Mohamed, at Cairo Marriott hotel, which they used as a temporary office to manage their work, later they were charged with spreading false news and aiding a terrorist organization. On June 23, 2014, the court sentenced the three to 7-10 years in prison. The trial of the two foreigners and one Egyptian, attracted attention of the international community, many countries and organizations called on the Egyptian government to release them, and advocated their innocence since they were performing their jobs. Earlier this month Egypt and Qatar decided to thaw the tensions in their relations, which rose after the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013. On December 23, 2014, Qatar decided to suspend Al-Jazeera Mubasher Misr, which was one of the greatest reasons behind the hostility that erupted between the two countries. After the latest development in Egyptian-Qatari relations hopes were heightened to release the three detainees, but today's verdict didn't allow them to get out detention. President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi stated previously that he wished the case had never reached trial, and that the two foreigner journalists just get deported to their countries.
