The first renovation phase of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square has been completed and inaugurated Monday by Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab. The renovations included the museum's eastern wing and King Tutankhamen's Hall. The construction work lasted around six months, according to Minister of Antiquities Mamdouh Damaty. The project's main goal is to restore the museum to its original state after its reconstruction and improve inscriptions and wall decorations which were affected by the passing of time, clarified Damaty. Head of European Union Delegation to Egypt, James Moran, attended the opening ceremony and announced that EU will participate with 900 thousand euros in the museum's next phases of renovation. The Egyptian Museum contains more than 120,000 historical pieces. It was established in 1902.
