The Egyptian Center for Nanotechnology one of the main branches of Zewail City for Science and Technology will be inaugurated Tuesday, considered to be a big leap in scientific research in the country. The Center for Nanotechnology is a highly anticipated national project due to the cutting edge scientific projects and inventions expected to be launched by its high level scientists.
Zewail, first Egyptian to win a Nobel Prize in a scientific field for his groundbreaking work on femtochemistry, founded his namesake City in 2000 to achieve scientific renaissance in the country. He is the third Egyptian national to receive the Nobel Prize, following Egyptian president Anwar Al-Sadat in 1978 in Peace category, and Naguib Mahfouz in 1988 in Literature category. Zewail City is a not-for-profit, independent learning, research and innovation institution which aims at elevating local technologies to international standards, and to increase national productivity by building a knowledge-based society founded on creative thinking. The Center's opening ceremony is expected to be attended by Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab, ministers and public figures.
