The government approved Wednesday a new law dividing electoral districts, a last legislative step before upcoming parliamentary elections, during its weekly meeting headed by Prime Minister, Ibrahim Mahlab. The new law states that the next parliament will comprise 540 seats, including 420 seats for singles candidates, 120 for lists, and 231 for individual electoral districts. Moreover, electoral districts will be represented by either one or more members according to each district's population density. A total of 177 districts will have one seat, 119 will have two seats, and the remaining 35 will have three seats. The law will be reviewed by the State's council before being sent to the President, Abdul Fattah Al Sisi, in preparation for parliamentary elections.
