Cairo International Women's Film Festival in its 7th session will commence on Saturday evening with the participation of 40 countries with 60 films, all directed by women. The festival will host around 20 female producers and directors from Cuba, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Czech Republic, Russia, Algeria, Lebanon and Palestine. The screenings will be held at the Falaki Theatre, Artistic Creativity Centre and Goethe Institute. All films will be Arabic and English subtitled and the audience allowed free entrance. The six days event offers participants the opportunity of watching an extensive collection of unique films made by women, as well as exchanging ideas and experiences. According to its official website, the Festival is an independent initiative that aims at introducing the best films created by women over the past two years – both from Egypt and other prominent international festivals – and is known for its high artistic standards and varied forms of expression. The Cairo International Women's Film Festival started in 2008 and it succeeded in attracting an increasingly large audience. Amal Ramsis, the festival's founder and director, issued a statement saying; "We hope that the festival becomes a true window for the best films made by women all over the world, and keeps people talking about different cinematic and social issues." International and Egyptian Panoramas as well as an Aran Caravan, feature among the festival's different sections. This 7th session is organized by Klaketa Arabe in collaboration with KCD (Kultura, Communication y Dessarollo, Spain) with the support of Diputación Foral de Bizkaia, in addition to the Embassies of the Netherlands, Portugal, Denmark and Spain. The American University in Cairo (Film-Visual Cultures Program), and Goethe Institute are also among the institutions hosting the event this year.
