Dolled up Depending on how his team fares, Hassan Shehata has been at times a hero and sometimes a goat. Most recently, the coach of Egypt's football team was a doll, around 12 inches tall, holding a Ramadan lantern and the African Cup which Shehata won three consecutive times, as in this photo by Bassam El-Zoghby. Attired in the red and blue tracksuit of the team, Shehata shakes to a Ramadan tune. The creator has also dolled up Egypt's star player, No 22 Mohamed Abu Treika. At Al-Mesaharati Ramadan Tent held in the Cairo Sheraton Hotel, the Cultural Salon organised by Al-Ahram Establishment hosted head of the Egyptian Radio and Television Union (ERTU) Osama El-Sheikh in a prestigious seminar. The seminar was chaired by Al-Ahram deputy managing editor and tourism editor Mustafa El-Naggar and was crowned by the presence of Al-Ahram Editor-in-Chief Osama Saraya, Al-Ahram back page editor Mona Ragab and head of Channel One in ERTU Azza Mustafa. The Greater Cairo Library in Zamalek organised an exhibition for the latest books of Al-Ahram veteran columnist Anis Mansour on the occasion of his birthday. The exhibition features more than 2,000 of Mansour 's books in different fields, such as biographies and plays. Greater Cairo Library Director Mohamed Hamdi noted that, "Mansour is keen to dedicate his books to the library, which are considered a treasure trove of information." The world number one DJ, Tiesto, featured in a spectacular concert at La Jolie Plage beach on the North Coast where some 450,000 flocked to attend. The audience was dazzled with the variety of Tiesto 's fabulous house tracks until five o'clock the next morning. Pop singer Haitham Shaker rocked the stage of Al-Ittihad Sporting Club in Alexandria, singing for two hours a number of his highly sought-after songs. Shaker surprised his audience with the appearance of talented singer and music composer Hamid El-Shaeri. Shaker expressed gratitude for El-Shaeri, who discovered his talent. Later they shared the stage performing three of El-Shaeri 's most popular songs. A press conference was held for Moroccan singer Samira Said discussing her participation in the blood donation campaign entitled "Hope Streams". Said will be an ambassador of the campaign that aims at raising awareness about the importance of blood donations. It will be launched on International Blood Donation Day. The Arab-American Cultural and Community Centre (AACCC) in California, the permanent cooperative for UNICEF activities, honoured talented Syrian actor Gamal Suleiman with the participation of Samraa Khalijia magazine. AACCC director and managing editor of the magazine Nihal Kamel handed Suleiman the Creativity Award for his oeuvre. The award was bestowed on Suleiman on the set of his new Ramadan TV series Qesset Hobb (Love Story). The Uzbekistan Consulate in Alexandria hosted a prestigious diplomatic honorary ceremony for the theatrical performance Lesa Fi Amal (There's Still Hope) at the Lycée Theatre in Alexandria. The ceremony was held under the auspices of Uzbekistan Ambassador to Egypt Shazim Minovarov, Consul Zeidan Mohamed Zeidan and media counsellor at the Uzbekistan Embassy Ayman Hamed. During the ceremony Minovarov honoured the cast of the play, including actress Ghada Ibrahim, singer-cum-actor Sameh Youssri, head of the Egyptian Actors Union Ashraf Zaki and director of the Artistic House of Theatre Magdi Fekri. Minovarov bestowed the national uniform of Uzbekistan upon the play's leading actress, Ibrahim, applauding her exceptional performance. With the advent of the holy month of Ramadan, charitable organisations gear up for feeding the needy. As is their habit every year, members of Rotaract Nasr City distributed 420 boxes filled with food among the poor in the districts of Al-Darb Al-Ahmar, Al-Zawya Al-Hamra and Ramlet Boulaq. Distributing food boxes is not the only activity Rotaract organises during the holy month. It also organises Iftar meals for orphans and the elderly in many areas. Minister of Investment Mahmoud Mohieldin honoured representatives of the ministries contributing to the Doing Business Report who, he said, are key partners in the Ministry of Investment's strategy to improve Egypt's investment climate. The officials include representatives from the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), the ministries of finance, justice, administrative development, housing, utilities and urban development, trade and industry, manpower and immigration and local development. Also included were the Egyptian Credit Bureau, Ministry of Investment-affiliated bodies represented by the General Authority for Investment (GAFI), the Egyptian Financial Supervisory Authority (EFSA), and the Egyptian Institute of Directors (EID), in addition to other agencies communicating directly with investors, such as the General Authority for Export and Import Control and the Customs Authority. Last Friday, El Sawy Culturewheel hosted a concert for Upper Egypt folklore that lasted two hours at the River Hall. A noteworthy seminar was held in the Conference Hall at the General Egyptian Book Organisation discussing the new book Muslims and European Modernism written by Lebanese Ambassador to Egypt Khaled Ziyada. Among the keynote speakers of the seminar were Supreme Council of Culture Secretary-General Emad Abu Ghazi, Al-Ahram Centre for Political and Strategic Studies Director Wahid Abdel-Meguid, political analyst Nabil Abdel-Fattah and Cairo University professor of Contemporary History Mohamed Afifi.
