Next Tuesday -- 25 August -- six years would have passed since the death of , whose writings it was a privilege to host on the pages of this newspaper. During the last ten years of his life, Said's articles appeared regularly on the pages of Al-Ahram Weekly. His first article -- a forceful denunciation of the Oslo agreement -- appeared in September 1993, and he continued to contribute regularly to the newspaper for the next ten years. These articles are now collected in three books: Peace and its Discontents ; The End of the Peace Process ; and From Oslo to Iraq. On this anniversary, all of us at the Weekly are deeply saddened by the loss of this great public intellectual and political activist. We extend our heart-felt condolences to his family as well as to the millions of people all over the world who continue to strive to keep alive his lofty and humane vision.
