By Nesma Nowar A HIGH level US delegation including United States Senators John McCain and John Kerry as well as Jeff Immelt, CEO of General Electric (GE), was in Cairo earlier this week. The delegation has met with government officials as well as business and civil society prominent figures to discuss how greater democratic and economic reform can lead to more foreign investment. The delegation opened a trading session at Egypt's stock exchange on Sunday, Nesma Nowar reports. "Our visit emphasises that the American people want to see Egypt's revolution succeed," McCain said, addressing a press conference held on Sunday. "We want to assist not to dictate." Senator Kerry pointed out that the US is trying to serve the aspirations of the Egyptian people. He said he believes that assisting Egypt for a better economic future would contribute to world peace. He believes that increasing American investments in the country would contribute to resolving Egypt's economic problems including unemployment. Kerry added that he, along with McCain, are holding an enterprise fund of hundreds of thousands of dollars in order to help medium and small enterprises (SMEs). "We have a great vision for Egypt, but we are focussing on what we can do in the short term," said Immelt. Two weeks ago, another delegation of high- profile executives from several US companies was also in Egypt. They, too, came to express the seriousness of the US private sector about the country's transition.
