PREPARATIONS for the Arab-Latin summit scheduled to be held in Brazil in May are under way. This week, Chilean President Ricardo Lagos visited Cairo for talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on the summit and ways of boosting bilateral relations. "This is the first visit by a Chilean president to Egypt since Egypt and Chile established diplomatic relations in 1929," Mubarak told a joint press conference with Lagos in Cairo. During his talks with Egyptian officials, Lagos discussed ways of boosting bilateral ties, and agreements to enhance cultural and educational cooperation were signed. While in Cairo, Lagos visited the Arab League headquarters for talks with Secretary-General Amr Moussa on preparations for the Arab-Latin summit. At a press conference following their talks both Moussa and Lagos promised continuous coordination to upgrade Arab-Latin cooperation. As members of the third world, Moussa and Lagos agreed that Arab and Latin countries needed to upgrade cooperation, especially on the economic front.
