The British Ambassador to Egypt Sir Derek Plumbly honoured my dear friend head of the Afro-Asian Lawyers Union for Human Rights and head of Egypt's Daughter Charity Association Essmat El-Merghani, for her relentless efforts in holding charity projects. This is besides other projects for the sake of orphans as well as her public activities. Among the attendees were head of Cairo Lions Nabil El-Bebawi and its secretary- general, Hassan Abaza. Last week, my lovelies, I attended the opening of an extremely interesting exhibition titled "Indian Marriage in Folk Art" by Indian artist Aradhana Gupta, at El-Sawy Cultural Centre. The exhibition is an attempt to consciously familiarise the Egyptian audience with the beauty and festive celebrations of Indian marriages. The very traditional aspects of a typical Indian wedding are displayed in Madhubani style which suits the theme of the paintings. Among those who attended the exhibition and enjoyed Gupta 's art were my dear friend Italian Ambassador in Egypt Antonio Badini. Gupta 's work encapsulates the essence of India's rich cultural heritage. Interestingly, she has worked with NASA scientists to forward the concepts of K-12 science education via art project. Recently, the World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Director Hussein Abdel-Razaq El-Gezairy organised a media evening titled "Partnership in Health", at the City Stars Intercontinental Hotel, Heliopolis. The event was held to mark the launching of the Arabic World Health report and also included a media awards ceremony and a musical performance by consummate pianist Omar Khayrat. The ceremony was crowned with the presence of Lebanese singer Sabah, actress and UN goodwill ambassador Safiya El-Emari, singer-cum-actress Simone, veteran comedian Abdel-Moneim Madbouli and aspiring cinema star Khaled Abul-Naga. Earlier this week, Cairo Governor Abdel-Azim Wazir and head of the General Organisation for Cultural Palaces (GOCP) Mustafa Elwie attended the GOCP's mega celebration of "Reading For All Festival" titled this year "Peace Culture". The festivity took place at the ravishingly designed Al-Fustat Park featuring Al-Nil folk music and singing troupe, Al-Tannoura whirling dervishes, Al-Sharqiya Folk Art troupe and Ismailia Children Choir. Around 200 cultural palaces and libraries from Egypt's various governorates are participating throughout the summer. This is in addition to five "cultural caravans" equipped with the most updated services aiming at reaching Egypt's remotest regions.
