photos: Mohamed Wassim Last Tuesday, my dear readers, the memorial plaque with a bronze medal depicting the profile of Al-Ahram Weekly 's very own founding Editor-in-Chief Hosny Guindy (1940- 2003), was officially unveiled at a reception hosted by Al-Ahram Weekly 's Editor-in-Chief Assem El-Kersh. A galaxy of Al-Ahram senior editors and personnel participated in commemorating Guindy 's second death anniversary. Among Al-Ahram dignitaries were Al-Ahram Editor-in- Chief Osama Saraya ; Al-Ahram Al-Riyadi sports magazine Editor-in-Chief Ibrahim Hegazi ; Editor-in-Chief of Alaaeddin children magazine Magda El-Guindi ; Editor-in-Chief of Al-Ahram Al-Arabi magazine Abdel-Atty Mohamed, Editor-in-Chief of Nisf Al-Donia magazine Afkar El-Kharadly, General Manager of Al-Ahram Printing Department Mohamed Taymour ; Al-Ahram Weekly layout supervisor and Al-Ahram Deputy Editor-in-Chief Samir Sobhi as well as members of the Weekly team. Al-Ahram General Manager Ali Ghoneim, who represented Al-Ahram Chairman of the Board Salah El-Ghamry, drew the curtain. Among the other distinguished guests were Al-Ahram prominent caricaturist Nagui Kamel, who created Guindy 's plaque. Oh my darlings, it was extremely touching to see Guindy 's wife Moushira and his lovely daughter Yasmine. They both burst into tears at the precise moment when the plaque was unveiled. Such good news, my dear Sharm El-Sheikh lovers! Head of the Cinema Union Mamdouh El-Leithi, in cooperation with cinema producer Kamel Abu Ali, who owns a hotel in Sharm El-Sheikh, agreed on hosting three musical concerts (20 August-20 September). This comes as an attempt to revive the city's touristic and artistic life and to prove to the entire world that Sharm El-Sheikh is indeed the city of peace. All Egyptian and Arab artists and singers are invited to participate in this thrilling event. Don't miss it. Congratulations! Member of the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) Hoda Abdel-Moneim has just been appointed professor of Arabic contemporary studies in Manchester University, Britain. The Nile Hilton is holding a very special Seafood Festival in its Ibis Café throughout the month of August. The festival is held in collaboration with a famous Port Said seafood restaurant, owned by the Masry Club football player Ahmed Mustafa. Among the mouth- watering Port Said delicacies are: Baklaweez (clams), Molokhia with shrimps and fish, Sayadeya fish and calamari tagin -- stew. The festival was inaugurated by the Nile Hilton General Manager Jean-Pierre Mainardi and captain Ahmed Mustafa surrounded by the Semsemeya band and the Bambouti dancers of Port Said. The lovely and charismatic actress Yousra will be flying to Algeria towards the end of September. Yousra 's movie Al-Aseffa (The Storm) will be screened during the Egyptian film week, organised according to the bilateral cultural agreements between the two countries. The director of Al-Aseffa Khaled Youssef will also attend the week-long event. The glamorous actress Yousra will participate in a seminar that will follow the screening of the movie. Among the other movies that are scheduled to be shown are Mafia, Sahar Al-Layali (Sleepless Nights) and Hammam in Amsterdam. A competition for drawing on asphalt by the children of Alexandria and children from neighbouring governorates will be held at the end of August. The event is to be held under the auspices of Minister of Culture and artist Farouk Hosni, along with Minister of Youth Mamdouh El-Beltagui and head of Smouha Club in Alexandria Mohamed Farag Amer. The club, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, came up with this unique idea with a maximum of 10 kids from each club or childcare associations. If you are one of the fans of gifted actress and former ballerina Hanan Tork, you should know that the lovely actress has flown recently to the Syrian capital Damascus. Tork will be starring in a movie together with the distinguished Syrian comedian Darid Laham as well as a large number of Syrian stars. The Egyptian beauty will be playing a leading female role in the film. Interestingly enough, Tork is going to be the only Egyptian star taking part in the film. Well deserved my dear. Tork will resume rehearsals on her role in the new play Al-Iskafi Malekan (The Shoe Mender, a King) with singer Hisham Abbas as soon as she returns to Egypt. Culture Minister Farouk Hosni has invited more than 100 top school and technical education students to visit the Cairo Opera House and attend its summer concerts to encourage them to excel more at the coming school years. Director of the Opera House Abdel-Moneim Kamel pointed that with the beginning of the artistic season in September, the opera will welcome students from different age groups to attend the final rehearsals of the orchestra, ballet and opera concerts for free.
