Don't miss the concerts of The T-Sisters, Arirang ensemble and Ursula Lopez's Flamenco performance
Published in Al-Ahram Weekly on 28 - 03 - 2019

D-CAF's 8th edition (29 March-21April)

The Greek Campus
28 Falaki Street, Bab El Louk (Entrance on Tahrir Street), Downtown Cairo
Fri 5, 7pm: American folk band The T-Sisters are bringing their Indie-American folk sound to Cairo, courtesy of the US Embassy and American Music Abroad (AMA). The T Sisters will be performing two public concerts and will be collaborating with Egyptian artists and leading workshops. As part of the D-CAF, the T Sisters will collaborate with Egyptian folk musician Shereen Abdo and perform in an all-female lineup.

Rawabet Theatre
3 Hussien El Meaamar St. ext. of Mahmoud Basiouny St., from Talaat Harb Square, Downtown
Thurs 4, 8pm: Tesbah Ala Kheir, a contemporary theatre (France/Egypt), a project by Duncan Evennou and Lancelot Hamelin in collaboration with Benoit Verjat and Adham Hafez, directed by Duncan Evennou and written by Lancelot Hamelin. It features actors Nagui Shehata, Mona Gamil, Lamia Gouda, Ali Sobhy, technical director Mido Sadek, dramaturgy and cultural mediation by Adham Hafez, light designer Patrick Laffont-DeLojot (Arabic with English Subtitles).
Tues 9 and Wed 10, 8pm: Interspersing dance sequences with audience interaction, Without Damage is a contemporary dance solo that reflexively confronts and exposes some of the contradictions inherent to the performing act and the role of the artist: from performance as spectacle, as emotional and individually embodied act, to simply being a commodity for audience consumption. Based on Mohamed Fouad's choreographic research, the piece critically asks questions about what it means to be famous, successful and recognized. By creating a certain artificial distance between the performer and the audience, the process of mediation is made apparent and the expectations that arise when money and time are invested into art are subtly ridiculed (Arabic). Choreographed and performed by Mohamed Fouad, light designer Saber El-Sayed and musician Ahmed Saleh.
Dramaturgy and visual developer Hakim Abdel-Naeem (There will be a launch event of KHALF 40 Artists' Collective on 10 April at 9pm after the performance).
