Perfect Liverpool
Published in Al-Ahram Weekly on 30 - 08 - 2018

King Mo Salah did it again for Liverpool as he scored the only goal of the game to give his side a precious three points against a resilient Brighton side. Salah's goal came in the 23rd minute thanks to a stunning finish from the right hand side of the edge of the area from Firmino's pass. Salah and his teammates came close to adding more goals throughout the game but Brighton's goalkeeper Matt Ryan had a terrific day as he ensured the visitors stayed in the game until the last minute when they almost snatched a point through Pascal Gross who was denied by a brilliant save from Liverpool's new boy Alisson.
Salah's strike was his 29th in 29 games at Anfield dating back from last season as the Egyptian once again proved to be the hero for his club which maintained its 100 per cent record in the league this season. Liverpool's seven goals in three games saw Salah contribute directly to more than 50 per cent of them as this latest strike made it two goals and two assists for the Egyptian superstar this season. Next up for Salah and Liverpool is Leicester City away from home. Salah scored in both Leicester games last season (one away and two home) so let's hope he'll keep the streak going against the in-form opponents.
Al-Nenni
In other news about Egyptian players abroad, Ramadan Sobhi didn't make it to the game squad as Huddersfield played out a goalless draw against newcomers Cardiff while Mohamed Al-Nenni was an unused substitute against West Ham after Arsenal won their first game of the season when they came back from one goal down to win 3-1.
In the championship Ahmed Hegazi's West Brom conceded a last minute goal as they lost to Middleborough 1-0, which takes their tally to only seven points from five games. They surely hoped to start the season in better fashion as they aim to head back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
Still in the championship, the evergreen Ahmed Al-Mohamadi scored his second goal of the season when Aston Villa drew 1-1 against Reading thanks to a last gasp equaliser from the visitors Reading to deny Al-Mohamadi and his teammates a vital three points. Al-Mohamadi's goal came in the 51st minute with a fine header from close range to take his tally to two goals and two assists in just five games so far this season. However, he will surely be disappointed his goal was not enough to collect maximum points from the game.
In Turkey, Trezeguet played the full game as his side Kasimpasa defeated Sivasspor 3-0 away. Trezeguet was not directly involved in any of the goals but he still played a great game. Like Salah, Trezeguet's team sit top of the league after three wins from three league games so far this season.
Sobhi
In Greece, Amr Warda scored his first Champions League goal when he scored a hugely vital away strike against Benfica to equalise for PAOK in the 76th minute. Warda did not start the game but came on in the 52nd minute when his side was down 1-0. Over 20 minutes later he scored arguably the most important goal of his career so far. We now hope that Warda will join Salah in the group stages of the Champions League if he and his teammates manage to get the job done in the second leg at home.
Still in Greece, new signing Ahmed Hassan Kouka made his debut for Greek giants Olympiacos when he came on at half-time when the score line was 0-0 to help his side start the season with a win as they defeated Levadiakos 1-0.
