Wedding day beauty secrets
Published in Al-Ahram Weekly on 22 - 06 - 2017

Eid El-Fitr is just round the corner, and many wedding parties are held during or after the Eid vacation. There's nothing like having a supermodel look on such a big day, yet wedding day beauty shouldn't begin while the bride is sitting in the stylist's chair. A great bridal look requires love, time and devotion.
So start now by observing the following tips that can bring out a more beautiful you:
HAIR: Start repairing from the inside out. Experts recommend a diet rich in Vitamin B like fish, nuts and eggs to help bring out your hair's natural shine. On the outside, a revitalising scalp massage and deep conditioning treatment around four weeks prior to the wedding day can help stimulate the hair follicles and add body. Finally, the best way to repair damaged ends is to get a trim.
FACE: Drink plenty of water before and on your big day to help make you face look moist and glowing. Though facial peels slough off dead skin cells and improve circulation, don't even think about getting a facial within ten days of your wedding.
EYES: Take off eye makeup gently with a water-soluble remover. The skin around your eyes is sensitive, so don't scrub it and keep rubbing to a minimum. Avoid salty foods that can cause eyes to look swollen. Since dark circles and puffiness around the eyes are common bride-to-be problems, apply a night eye-cream and get adequate sleep to improve the appearance of the eyes. A cool compress once a week or as needed will also help keep puffiness at bay.
LIPS: You should exfoliate your lips at least once a week. Wet a toothbrush with warm water and brush lips with a gentle back and forth motion. Use a Vitamin E stick to combat the cracks and creases the weather and nervous lip-biting can cause. You can also use sunscreen to protect your lips from looking or feeling dry.
NECK: Exfoliate with a gentle scrub every other day, apply a light moisturiser daily, and use sunscreen when heading out in a neck-baring top. Your neck's thin and fragile skin has fewer oil glands than the rest of your body, so it requires special care to keep it elastic and smooth.
BODY: Try to take exercise or walk to relieve stress and get your body in shape. If you don't have time, you can take a daily multivitamin dose which can up your energy and work wonders on digestive issues, sleeping disorders or tattered nerves. Externally, exfoliation can do the trick, making your skin feel softer and more toned without going to the gym. Exfoliate daily using a loofah or body scrub. If you opt for shaving, you should shave only after you've softened the skin with warm water and moisturising shaving cream. Apply a rich moisturiser while your body is still damp after showering.
FEET: Indulge your feet with various treatments before the wedding. Start with a daily scrub using a pumice stone or foot rasp to scrub away dry, cracked skin on heels and toes. The feet should be moist when you do this, as a wet foot is too slippery to be properly exfoliated. Use a decent quantity of a thick moisturiser on your feet, and then slip them into a pair of socks while you sleep to retain body heat and help seal in moisture overnight.
