THE PRESS Syndicate this week announced the results of its contest “Excellence of Journalism”. Among the 2016 winners, the publications of Al-Ahram won 12 prizes and certificates of appreciation. Ahmed Ibrahim Amer won two prizes, one for his story “From Cairo to the Benghazi front line” published in Al-Ahram Weekly and one on Libya which appeared in Al-Ahram Al-Arabi magazine. Hosni Kamal won the first prize for his series of press interviews covering the renewal of religious discourse, published in the daily Al-Ahram. Maher Badr won the Mounir Kanaan's artistic creativity award for his two stories “An old love story” and “Story of a silent ceremony on 60' music”, published in the daily. Also from Al-Ahram, Nemat-Allah Abdel-Rahman won the second prize in environmental journalism. Al-Ahram Al-Arabi magazine's Maher Zohdi won the second prize of artistic journalism for his story “Passion story for art and life”. As for the economic press award, both Ahmed Al-Sebaai and Dina Mustafa won the second prize for their feature on the looted funds and equitable reconciliation appearing in Al-Ahram Al-Iqtisadi magazine. Photo-journalist Mohamed Hassanein, from Al-Ahram Gate website, won the first prize of photography for covering the collapse of Al-Fagallah building. Amr Al-Sawi received two certificates of appreciation for two infograghs in the daily Al-Ahram. Other winners included Mohamed Abu Deif for his series covering Sinai and published in the newspaper Al-Watan, Iman Al-Warraqi for her piece on drug trafficking in Al-Youm Al-Sabei, and Abdel-Rahman Abadi for his special article on violations of the Ministry of Higher Education published in the daily Al-Ahram Al-Masaai. The judges committee, which met at the syndicate's downtown headquarters, was chaired by Yehia Qallash, chairman of the syndicate. Gamal Abdel-Rehim, the syndicate's secretary-general and Mahmoud Kamel, head of the syndicate's cultural committee, were the two other judges.
