Sun 9, 10.30pm: The blues band Blue Notes returns with some great music influenced by various types of blues music, from Mississippi blues to the upbeat Chicago blues to the white British blues. Thurs 13, 10.30pm: Eslam Al-Shaary will feature a musically-rich evening with his unique sound of world fusion music which includes an array of wonderfully mastered and intriguing instruments. Al-Shaary's music is said to “give expression to his mystical experiences”. Next up, we have the very exciting Kuwait-based alternative electronic music artist Zahed Sultan. Creating an audio-visual experience for his audience, Sultan aims for his performances to be interactive, a sort of collaboration between himself and the audience.

Al-Mastaba Centre for Egyptian Folk Music 30A Al-Balaqsa St, Abdeen, Downtown, Tel 011 5099 5354 Al-Dammah Theatre for Free Arts Thurs 6, 9pm: Al-Tanbura troupe includes 20 members: master musicians, singers, philosophers, as well as fishermen, builders, plumbers and vendors, ranging in age from 25 to 84 years. Their instruments are their voices, the simsimia, the tanbura (big lyre), nay also kawala (end-blown, reed flute), tabla (vase-shaped drum), triangle, sagat (small cymbals), shakhalil (kind of castanets) and riqq (open, wooden frame drum with jingling discs in the frame). Their collected oral repertoire consists of more than 20 hours of traditional songs and much remains to be documented.

Visitors can also tour the area's landmarks, including Al-Mansour Qalawun Complex, the mosque and the school of the Mameluke Sultan Al-Zaher Barquq.
