A glowing summer look
Published in Al-Ahram Weekly on 12 - 07 - 2016

When a heatwave strikes, the soaring temperatures can be very uncomfortable, especially for the skin. The heat burns the skin, and in addition to dehydrating the body, the extreme temperatures can cause pigmentation and early ageing, as well as make the skin look tried and sallow with zero appeal.
Here are some facial remedies that are easy to make at home but are effective at beating the summer's effects on the skin.
Almond oil therapy: This is very effective in protecting the delicate skin under the eyes.
All you need is a piece of cotton wool and almond oil. Dip the cotton wool in the almond oil and carefully wipe your face with it. It is an effective cleanser for removing unseen dirt.

Cucumber face parcel: This pack will help keep your skin hydrated and smooth looking during the summer. Peel one cucumber and mash it in a bowl. Add one tablespoon of sugar to the mashed cucumber and mix well. Place the mixture in the refrigerator until cool. Apply it to your face and leave it on for ten minutes. Wash your face with cold water.
Tomato pulp face pack: This helps to polish the surface of the skin to give it a healthy shine. Take some tomato pulp and mix a drop of honey into it. Apply the mixture on your face and leave it for a few minutes before rinsing with cold water.
Milk and honey mix: This works well for oily skin and helps to get rid of colouration. Mix four tablespoons of milk, one tablespoon of honey, and two tablespoons of lemon juice well.
Apply the mixture evenly on tanned areas of the skin for 15 minutes. Wash with cold water when dry.
Watermelon face pack: This helps remove blemishes and acts as a toner. All you need are two tablespoons of cucumber juice, two tablespoons of watermelon juice, one teaspoon of yoghurt and one teaspoon of milk powder. Mix all the above and apply them on your face for about 15 minutes. Wash off thoroughly with cold water.

Mango pack: This protects your skin from sun damage. Mix two tablespoons of mango pulp, one teaspoon of sandalwood powder, one teaspoon of honey, one tablespoon of yoghurt, and some turmeric powder together. Apply the mixture to your face immediately and leave it on for 15 minutes and then wash off thoroughly.
Lemon face pack: This will help tighten your skin and make it smooth and glowing looking for summer. Mix one tablespoon of honey, one tablespoon of lemon juice and one egg white to prepare the pack. Apply it to the face with your fingertips. Leave for 20 minutes and then rinse with cool water and pat dry with a towel.
Milk powder face remedy: This fights dryness and helps you get a soft and moisturised look. Mix two teaspoons of milk powder with two tablespoons of honey. Apply to your face for 15 minutes then wash off with cold water.
