Donald Trump: Shock factor
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump called on Monday for the United States to bar all Muslims from entering the country until the nation's leaders can “figure out what is going on” after terrorist attacks in San Bernardino, California. A prohibition of Muslims — an unprecedented proposal by a leading American presidential candidate, and an idea more typically associated with hate groups — reflects a progression of mistrust that is rooted in ideology as much as politics.
Trump is a flamboyant American business magnate, investor, author, television personality and 2016 presidential candidate, worth $4.5 billion according to Forbes magazine. Trump's populist anti-immigrant are a defining contrast to the establishment Republican faction, earning him support among working class white voters amid heavy controversy in the news.
On the campaign trail in September, Trump declared: “I love the Muslims”, but turned sharply against them after the Paris terrorist attacks, demanding a database and ID cards to track Muslims in America. His poll numbers rose largely as a result, but when they waned earlier this week he called for the ban — fitting his pattern of making stunning comments when his lead in the Republican presidential field appears in jeopardy.
The real estate tycoon is chairman and president of The Trump Organisation and founder of Trump Entertainment Resorts. Trump's career, branding efforts, lifestyle and outspoken manner have made him a celebrity, a status amplified by the success of his NBC reality show, The Apprentice.
One of the most valuable shipwrecks in history was found this week off the shore of Columbia. The wreck of Spanish ship is laden with treasure, estimated at between $1 billion to $10 billion, was sunk by the British more than 300 years ago. “Great news! We have found the San Jose galleon,” tweeted Colombia's President Juan Manuel Santos.
The wreck, discovered near the port city of Cartagena, has been described as the holy grail of shipwrecks since the ship was carrying one of the largest amounts of valuables ever to have been lost at sea. The San Jose was carrying gold, silver, gems and jewellery collected in the South American colonies to be shipped to Spain's king to help finance his war of succession against the British when it was attacked by a British warship in June 1708.

Egypt will freeze talks on importing Israeli natural gas after an international arbitration court ordered Cairo to pay a fine of almost $1.73 billion to Israel. Egypt will appeal the ruling by a panel at the Geneva-based International Chamber of Commerce within six weeks, Prime Minister Sherif Ismail said in an interview. The fine was imposed after arbitration between East Mediterranean Gas Company, Israel Electric Corporation, and companies supplying Egyptian gas through a pipeline in Sinai that was repeatedly sabotaged.

Gun threat
“Certain kinds of weapons, like the slightly modified combat rifles used in California, and certain kinds of ammunition, must be outlawed for civilian ownership. It is possible to define those guns in a clear and effective way and, yes, it would require Americans who own those kinds of weapons to give them up for the good of their fellow citizens.”
