Safarkhangallery's “Summer Collection 2015”, is a group exhibition that presents works by artists from the 1960's as well as contemporary artists including Ahmed Nawar. A Faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University graduate in 1967, Nawar's art journey is extended to 25 years now. He was granted a four-year scholarship in Spain from 1971-1975 where he obtained a post-graduate diploma in graphic design from San Fernando Academy in Madrid and another in mural in 1975. “In the end of sixties a friend of mine who was in Spain told me that she met a very promising young artist whose name was Ahmed Nawar. When he returned to Egypt I followed his journey in art and began inviting him to my programme in ETV and we have been in contact together since then. Nawar has proved himself as a distinguished artist by creating his own special input on art which represents the utmost accuracy of lines and colours that express his own creative artistic talents and believes. Nawar's great works was not only confined to paintings and drawings but it surpassed it to installations and sculptural works,” said Safarkhanfounder Sherwet Shafei. His art has been inspired by the elements of nature including the sun rays, and the moon light that he used to encounter daily in the village where he spent his childhood and adolescence. So, he mixed reality with his wild imagination. Nawar established international biennales and parallel seminars such as upgrading the Cairo International Biennale from 1988 to 2005, founding the Cairo International Biennale for Ceramics in 1992 and founding the Egyptian International Triennale for Graphics in 1993, launching Aswan International Sculpture Symposium in 1996 and 1997. He was assigned by the UNESCO as its expert to accomplish tasks such as preparing plans to upgrade and modernize the national museum in Qatar, as well as upgrading several museums in Emirates such as the Museum of Natural History, the Islamic Museum and Museum of Ancient Arts and Heritage in Sharjah. The exhibition runs till22 October.
