Egypt's Raneem Al-Welili, the world's No 2 player, took the women's title in the Windy City Open after beating the Malaysian queen of squash, the world's No 1 Nicol David. The 26-year-old defeated David 4-16, 12-10, 11-7, 11-7 in 57 minutes in the final of the $150,000 WSA World Series event at the University Club of Chicago in Chicago. Al-Welili came from one game down to overcome David, becoming the first Egyptian woman ever to win the title. “I thought I'd lost until it was 2-1 and 10-6 again,” said Al-Welili on her Facebook page. “I am absolutely thrilled to win this. It's not been an easy tournament for me and all credit to Nicol. She played an amazing match but I am glad I was able to push and finish it off this time.” En route to the final, Al-Welili beat France No 1 and world No 6 Camille Serme11-8, 8-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-3 in 58 minutes in the semi-final. David defeated the Egyptian Nour Al-Tayeb 11-9, 13-11, 12-10 in 52 minutes. In the quarter-final, David defeated England's world No 5 Alison Waters 12-10, 12-10, 11-7 in 40 minutes. Al-Welili beat Malaysian world No 7 Low Wee Wern 9-11, 11-6, 11-3, 11-9 in 39 minutes. In round two, Al-Welili beat compatriot Omneya Abdel-Kawi 11-7, 7-11, 11-9, 11-8 in 44 minutes, while David defeated Egyptian Heba Al-Torki 11-5, 11-4, 11-7 in 27 minutes. In round one, Al-Welili had little trouble against Denmark's Lina Hansen, winning 11-3, 11-5, 11-3 in 25 minutes. David beat American Olivia Blatchford 11-3, 11-6, 12-10 in 30 minutes. Egypt's world No 1 Mohamed Al-Shorbagi finished in second place, losing to Englishman Nick Mathew 11-7, 11-2, 11-7 in straight games in the men's final.
