Dressing by the Zodiac (II)
Published in Al-Ahram Weekly on 06 - 01 - 2015

Cancer
(June 21 - July 22)
Style: You're not a big style risk-taker and prefer to look pulled together in a ladylike kind of way. Of all the star signs, the crab is most associated with an inherent sense of style. Indulge your fluent femininity and radiate elegance and understated chic with vintage clothing. Generally, you look better in skirts and dresses than too masculine trousers.
Colours: Cancers are sensitive, soft and artistic, so light shades like white, silver, russet and lilac and pastels are good colours for you.
Leo
(July 23 - August 22)
Style: Forget about big comfy jumpers, sensible shoes and trousers. Outstanding angular shapes, sharp cuts, and bold and dramatic clothes are perfect for this confident star sign. You should seek out pieces by designer labels to be the centre of attention as your fashion sensibility is informed by your taste for luxury. In order to be true to themselves, Leos need to use clothes as part of a performance to create an impact.
Colours: Dramatic hues like red, gold, purple and black are the ones for the showy Leo woman.
Virgo
(August 23 - September 22)
Style: Detail and perfection are of utmost importance to the Virgo woman. Seek out flawless tailoring and elegant clothes with intricate detail. Virgos are economical so can often be found hunting through the sales for the ideal hemline. Your earth element draws you to natural fabrics like cotton, linen and jute. In accessories, watches and smart jewels usually score over other things for most Virgos.
Colours: Black and white is your signature colour combo. Look for it in a bold pattern like stripes or chevrons. Earth tones, white deep forest greens, browns, deeper rusts, off-whites, beige and fawns find a special place in your wardrobe.
Libra
(September 23 - October 22)
Style: Venus is your ruler and charm is like your second skin. You're a true lover of beauty. You love harmony and balance and can appreciate a wide variety of styles. Indulge in your natural predilection for luxurious, soft fabrics like silk lace, brocade and cashmere in addition to classic, feminine flowing dresses (a Libra woman should have a dress for every occasion). You should avoid overly frilly, fussy clothes and balance high fashion with timeless classics.
Colours: All colours suit your charming character, but pinks, pastels, dark and mid-blue and pearly colours are the best. White and elegant black are also right for Librans.
Scorpio
(October 23 - November 21)
Style: Scorpio is a sensuous sign ruled by the dark planet Pluto. That's why the naturally seductive, elegant and soft Scorpio woman is intensely passionate. Scorpios are known as much for their sex appeal as for their sense of mystery. Opt for daring pieces that accentuate your curves, but this doesn't have to mean a mini. Try a pencil skirt with a zip-up slit or a pair of over-the-knee boots. Let your sensual side shine through with silk, satin or velvet slinky shapes and statement shoes. You should steer clear of severe lines, tailored suits or hard fabrics.
Colours: Being the most sensual and seductive of the sun signs, deep blues and reds like dark plum and midnight are perfect colours for Scorpio.
Sagittarius
(November 22 - December 21)
Style: Your free, wandering spirit helps you experiment with styles, trends and clothing like no other sign. Though you care about how you look, you put a premium on comfort. Your clothes should be practical, even sporty. Trousers, leggings, comfortable flowing, unrestricted dresses and a soft and elegant blouse are all perfect. And because you love to flit about wherever and whenever you want, be sure you have a handbag big enough for all the stuff you like to cart around with you. Seek straightforward and low-maintenance clothes that won't restrict you. Floaty dresses, beads and glitters are a no-no for this sign.
Colours: Majestic purple is the Sagittarian power colour. Peach, white, beige, deep red, fuchsia pinks, navy blues are all much-loved colours that suit you best.
