Azmi Mehelba became the first Egyptian to win a medal in the International Shooting Sport Federation World Championship when he finished in third place at the 51st edition in Granada, Spain, In men's skeet, Russian Alexander Zemlin, 23, claimed the gold medal after beating 29-year-old Frenchman Anthony Terras, the 2008 Olympic bronze medalist, by 16 to 14 hits in the final match. Mehelba, 23, took the bronze medal after beating Frenchman Eric Delaunay by 15 to 13 hits, considered Egypt's best result in an ISSF World Championship since 1959. On his way to the podium, Mehelba scored 121 targets during the qualifications and then 15 targets in the semi-final shoot-out to advance to the bronze medal match. Mehelba's win allowed him to book the first Arab seat in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. ISSF gave 64 Olympic quota places to the top finalists during the event. The ISSF tournament, from 6-20 September, had over 2,000 athletes from 94 countries competing in 15 Olympic shooting events. The ISSF World Championship is held every four years. Last held in Munich, Germany in 2010, its next stop is Changwon, in the Republic of Korea in 2018. On the sidelines, the ISSF honoured international Egyptian referee and head of the refereeing committee Mohamed Wahdan with a symbolic gold medal.
