The right to choose
“I was very happy with the decision of the veteran politician Hamdeen Sabahi to join the presidential elections. I believe the elections will see genuine competition that will serve the Egyptian citizen first, he will be given the right to choose.”
Abdel-Fattah Abdel-Moneim,
Al-Youm Al-Sabei
Genuine elections
“By declaring that he will run in the presidential elections, Hamdeen Sabahi opened the door for the competitive elections that we wished for. He put an end to speculations that it will be a one-candidate election that does not meet the expectations of the people after two revolutions.”
Emad Al-Ghazali,
Al-Shorouk
The republic of fear
“Who is the hero, for God's sake? Hamdeen Sabahi who will join the presidential race in spite of the difficulties he will face in that marathon or Abul-Fotouh who withdrew and called the process a farce in the republic of fear. Sabahi is not playing the role of an extra. Joining the presidential race does not mean he will win or that he rejects Al-Sisi. We staged two revolutions but failed to understand the meaning of democracy. Abul-Fotouh said it is a play and withdrew. He wants to win under the threat of weapons like Morsi Al-Ayyat. That is highly unlikely.”
Mohamed Amin,
Al-Masry Al-Youm
21 million pieces of weaponry on the Egyptian borders
“In an interview with the London-based Al-Hayat newspaper the former Libyan Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril said that there are nearly 21 million weapons in the hands of fighters who are on the border waiting to enter Egypt to fight the regime. If this is true, Egypt will pay a high price for the state of chaos in Libya. Egypt should seriously think of ways to protect itself and the region from the Libyan time bomb.”
Emadeddin Hussein,
Al-Shorouk
Sustained development
“Dialogue is the only option for Egypt and Ethiopia. No one can deny the Egyptian role in the liberation movements in Africa and ridding the continent of occupation in the past. If this is part of Egyptian history, the two countries are now required to work together to win the future battle. Sustained development is the battle of both African countries and the continent.”

“Some Egyptian Americans are far off living in the States and do not realise the real monster which is the Brotherhood, and I said some like 25 per cent. My answer is come over and live in Cairo just one month to learn about this terrorist group and that it has nothing to do with religion. I am an expat American Egyptian too and am currently in Cairo and I learned the truth that they really are mostly paid thugs supported by foreign intelligence agencies and paid by them too.”
Hussein Eltouni
“It is an honour for me and for Hamdeen's supporters that Al-Sisi should be our next president. It is also an honour for me and supporters of Al-Sisi that Hamdeen should be our next president. It is our job to protect both candidates from the attacks of the MB and others. Please…”

Amr Moussa welcomes Hamdeen Sabbahi's presidential bid, says it will create a competitive elections environment.
Adam Ramsey @aporamsey
So Sabbahi, a self described Nasserist, is going to run against Sisi, a man described as being the new Nasser. Nice. #egypt
Bel Trew @Beltrew
Expect Sisi's decision on running for president just after 17 February when elections bill will be finalized.
