Al-Azhar students set fire to cars during protests at the Cairo campus; administration condemns student violence

Protesting Al-Azhar students set fire to a parking garage near the university's main administrative building in the Nasr City district of Cairo on Monday, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported. The students also set fire to a number of cars belonging to professors at the university.
Al-Azhar university issued a statement condemning student violence and stressing that students involved will be punished.
Protests continued after the incident, with students chanting slogans against the military and the police, according to Al-Ahram.
They also demanded the freedom of students who were detained at previous protests.
The spokesperson for the student union at Al-Azhar University, Ahmed Said, said that the union condemned the violence involved in the demonstrations.
Said also said that students are frustrated because of the clashes that took place on Sunday, which left two dead.
Students Ahmed Abdel-Hafez and Atta Ahmed were shot dead outside the university dormitories during clashes on campus on Sunday.
Around 300 pro-Brotherhood students also protested at Ain Shams University on Monday, Al-Ahram website reported.
According to the state news agency MENA, protests have also taken place in Mansoura University,in the Nile Delta governorate of Daqahliya.
Hundreds of pro-Brotherhood students also protested in Alexandria University against the detention of colleagues in previous demonstrations.
