Published in Ahram Online on 25 - 03 - 2014

Longwave [Les grandes ondes (àl'oest)] is a 2013 comedy directed by Lionel Baier. The film is a co-production by Switzerland, France and Portugal. It premiered in Paris in February 2014.
The film presentsa small teamfrom theRadio Suisse Romandethat is commissioned to work on a story about Swiss aid in Portugal. But nothing goes according to the plan, since the journalists find themselves in the middle of the Carnation Revolution, a military coup that overthrew the regime of Estado Novo in April 1974.
This entertaining take on the events in Portugal from the perspective of a team of journalists intertwines elements of comedy with struggles for freedom while the burlesque attitudes of the characters are at times topped with a dosage of melancholy.
The screening will have English and Arabic subtitles.
