Mido happy with Zamalek's improving efficiency, defends rotation policy Zamalek's rookie coach praises his side following a convincing 4-0 Egyptian Premier League win over Qanah, highlighting their improving efficiency in front of goal
Zamalek's coach Mido said he is delighted that his side are starting to shake off their prolificacy after crushing promoted Qanah 4-0 in Wednesday's Egyptian Premier League game to hand him his second victory in three matches. Striker Ahmed Ali, who replaced the misfiring Ahmed Gaafar in Zamalek's starting line-up, scored twice and Mauritanian forward Dominique Da Silva notched his maiden goal after joining in January as the Cairo giants closed to within one point of Group B joint leaders Petrojet and Ismaily. "It was important that we record such a big win after wasting many chances during the past two games," Mido, who has become the youngest-ever Egyptian coach when he replaced Helmi Toulan at Zamalek's helm, said in a television interview following the match. The former Tottenham, AS Roma and Marseille striker also defended his rotation policy that sees him make several changes to his starting line-up every game. "With such a hectic schedule, we always need fresh legs. I told my players that we will do that from day one," he added. "The result of what we are doing now will be clear in April when he approach the final playoff. My team will be fresher than their competitors." Mido said he hoped Zamalek would enjoy the support of their fans when they host Niger's Douanes Niamey on Sunday in the first leg of the African Champions League preliminary round. Egyptian authorities are enforcing a crowd ban in domestic games due to lingering security concerns. "My aim is to play before 40 or 50 thousand fans at Cairo Stadium. I don't want to mount pressure on authorities but fan presence will be very important for us during the coming Champions League match," Mido said.
